Your foot prints red upon the snow,as I creep creep crawled in your wake. No blooms fall from above, no birds fleeing from your path, no resurrection or judgement yet. Just slow steps unwinding, veil and mantle slipping past shoulders, waist, thighs. Down through the twisting paths, families sleeping in the hillside and onward we went. You turned back as the waters closed over you, eyes past seeing, so I stayed, breath held till the black river closed you in once more. I buried our wedding rings where I stood and traced our steps back out in slience. you know the rest.
The door is still open. I still can sing that song that made you smile. Winter lasts only so long.
